Course Introduction

The Pathway to University programme is a partnership between Future Learning and the Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest (TUS) in Athlone, located right in the heart of Ireland.

This programme helps to prepare students for entry to a third level course of their choice by providing training in English communication and the other 21st Century Skills needed for success in University; Collaboration, Creative Problem Solving, and Digital Information Skills.

Students will begin their journey by partaking in Future Learning's 21st Century Skills programme at either Stage 2: English for Professional Communication, or Stage 3: Foundation for Study through English at FL Athlone campus.

Upon completion of Stage 2, and with a minimum merit of ISE II from the Trinity College London exam, students will be eligible for Pathway to University Undergraduate Programmes at TUS Athlone.

Students who wish to apply for Postgraduate Programmes at TUS Athlone, must complete Stage 3 with a minimum merit of ISE III from the Trinity College London exam (equivalent to IELTS 6).

Pathways to university

Steps

The aim of our pathway programme is to equip participants to communicate effectively in English in order to be able to progress academically at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Effective communication is about more than just the language, it is about engaging with the educational culture in an appropriate way. It aims to help develop communication skills that consider the cultural as well as the linguistic challenges to successfully studying in an English-speaking institution.

This is the first step towards earning a degree in Ireland and will help students to make the transition to third level education in Ireland much easier.
