Identity and Culture Project: Irish Life and Culture

The aim of this project is for students to investigate what it means to be Irish and the differences and similarities with their own culture.

Rationale

The experience of staying with a host family, the student’s cultural activities in Ireland give a basis to explore the things that, together, make the culture of the country. This is supported by tasks which help the students observe and understand what they see around them in Ireland. They show their understanding by planning, recording and editing a documentary in teams on the aspects of cultural similarities and differences that most interest them.

Learner Profile

Young Learners from age 12 to 16 who have an interest in exploring other cultures and traditions while comparing them to their own.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of this course students will have

  • Researched different aspects of life in Ireland
  • Reported on observations and Interviews
  • Worked together to make a documentary and solve the problems along the way
  • Presented their conclusions and described how they arrived at them
