Beginner Stage: Basics of Using English
Levels A0 to A1
This stage aims to enable learners with only a few words and phrases, to successfully start using English for their most immediate needs. Participants who join this course are beginners working towards achieving an A1 (Elementary) level. There is a mid-course assessment and those who have activated their passive knowledge and are able to pass at A1 level at that point will move to preparation for A2 (Pre-Intermediate).
Learner Outcomes at A1 (Elementary):
By the end of the course, participants will have developed their use of English enough to undertake a course which develops communication, collaboration, creative problem solving, and critical thinking skills and will be able to do the following in English and through technology:
1. Understand familiar expressions and very basic phrases.
2. Introduce themselves and others and ask and answer questions about personal details such as places they live, people they know and things they have.
3. Use everyday expressions and very basic phrases to satisfy concrete needs.
4. Interact in a simple way when the other person talks slowly and clearly and helps them understand.
