Environment and Sustainability Project: Exploring Sustainable Development
The aim of this project is for students to develop an awareness of how sustainable development goals impact their daily lives and local area.
Rationale
Ireland is famous for being green and clean and the students are given tasks to help them understand where this reputation comes from and whether it is deserved. They show their understanding by researching, preparing and presenting an action plan for a local environmental issue that interests them in teams.
Learner Profile
Second- level or vocational students who have an interest in discovering Ireland’s natural resources and the importance of the conservation and protection of global ecosystems at home and across Europe to support health and wellbeing, now and in the future.
Learner Outcomes
By the end of this course students will have
- Explored the reasons people do or do not care about sustainability and the environment
- Identified a Sustainable Development Goal they would like to promote
- Worked in groups to create and present a proposal for how to work towards that goal
- Shown an understanding of how the sustainable development goals impact on their daily lives and local area.
